Handyman Service Across Madison, WI

Madison stretches across a narrow isthmus between Lake Mendota and Lake Monona and spreads out from there in every direction, a city of close to 280,000 people built around the Capitol dome and the University of Wisconsin campus. Its houses read like a timeline. Near the Capitol and in Mansion Hill are sandstone and brick homes from the 1800s, many long since converted into apartments. The streetcar neighborhoods that followed, Williamson-Marquette, Tenney-Lapham, Schenk-Atwood, Vilas, Greenbush and Dudgeon-Monroe, are packed with Craftsman bungalows, foursquares and two-flats from the early 1900s, most with plaster walls, oak or fir trim and basements of fieldstone or block. After the war came the ranches, split-levels and Cape Cods of Midvale Heights, University Hill Farms, Westmorland, Eken Park and the south side, and over the last few decades the city added new subdivisions on the far west and east edges and a long run of condo and apartment buildings along East Washington Avenue. One morning we might re-hang a hundred-year-old door on Spaight Street, and that afternoon we might mount a TV in a new apartment off the Capitol Square.

Daily life in Madison runs along a handful of lines on the map: East Washington Avenue and University Avenue feeding the isthmus, John Nolen Drive skirting Lake Monona past Monona Terrace, the Beltline carrying traffic around the south and west sides, and the bike paths that follow old rail corridors through the middle of town. The lakes set the seasons, from summer evenings at the Memorial Union Terrace to ice fishing shacks out on Mendota in January. Parking is tight near campus and on the near east side, so we plan stops carefully.

What Madison neighbors book most

Jobs we handle a lot in Madison

A typical week in Madison covers a lot of ground: plaster cracks and loose trim in older isthmus homes, ice-dam stains on upstairs ceilings, doors that bind every spring as the frost leaves the ground, gutters packed with maple seeds and oak leaves, fence posts that heaved over the winter, fans and light fixtures swapped in older rooms, faucets worn down by the city's hard water, and make-ready lists for landlords racing the August turnover.

Questions we hear around Madison

Do you cover the whole city?

Yes. That runs from the isthmus and the near east and near west sides out to Maple Bluff, Eken Park and the northeast side, through Vilas, Dudgeon-Monroe, Westmorland and Hill Farms, down to Allied Drive, Arbor Hills and the south side, and out to the newer neighborhoods on the far west and far east edges. If you have a Madison address, we've almost certainly worked nearby.

Can you work in my downtown condo or apartment building?

Yes. Most buildings around the Capitol Square and along East Washington Avenue want an elevator reservation, a certificate of insurance on file with management and work kept to set hours, and street loading downtown takes a little planning. Send us the building's requirements when you book and we'll organize the visit around them.

Do you help landlords get units ready between tenants?

Yes. Between leases we patch and paint walls, fix doors, locks and closet tracks, repair faucets and running toilets, replace blinds and smoke alarms, and clear the small items an inspection might flag. Give us the date the new tenant gets keys, and we'll build the schedule around it.

The Madison Way of Doing Business

Built for Wisconsin Winters

Madison averages around fifty inches of snow and spends weeks with lows near or below ten degrees, then swings above freezing on a sunny February afternoon. That cycle is what pries open caulk joints, heaves fence posts, builds ice dams along the eaves and knocks doors out of square. We repair with it in mind: sealing joints that will move, setting posts below the frost line where it matters, and picking hardware and finishes that hold up to road salt, snowmelt and a long heating season.

A Clear Price Before We Start

You get a plain quote before any tools come off the van, usually from a few photos and a quick call. Nothing gets padded, and no mystery charges show up on the final bill. If the job turns out simpler than it looked, the number comes down, and if we open a wall and find something bigger, we stop and talk it over with you before going further.

The Whole List, One Visit

Rather than calling a different trade for every chore, hand us the list. We come with a stocked van and work straight through it: the bathroom fan that rattles, the storm door that won't latch, the gutter that spills over the front steps, the TV still leaning against the wall since moving day. Wiring and plumbing connections are made by our licensed electricians and plumbers, so the light fixture and the leaky faucet get done in the same trip as everything else.

Local to the Isthmus

We work in Madison every week and know the city's quirks: tight parking on the near east side, student move-out in August, century-old plaster on Spaight Street and builder-grade hardware in a five-year-old Sun Prairie subdivision. When we give you a time window, we keep it, and because we're local, we're still a phone call away after the job is done if anything needs another look.

Areas We Roll Through

We're based on the isthmus and cover Madison plus the communities around it, roughly a 20-mile reach. That takes in Middleton and the west side, Verona and Fitchburg to the southwest and south, Monona on the lake, and Sun Prairie out to the northeast.
